Graduation

ICRPS Graduation Night

The date for this year’s graduation ceremony is Friday, June 22, 2018.

The  day begins with our final rehearsal.  Graduates will meet in the South Gym immediately following morning attendance.  We will run through the ceremony from start till finish, until we get it just right.  This will likely take until about 11:00 a.m.

At 11:00, any students with signed notes of permission to leave early will be dismissed for the day.  Many of you will have appointments, or will be resting up for the busy evening ahead.  Any students without permission to leave early are expected to attend school for the whole day, as usual.

Graduating students will meet at ICRPS at 6:30 p.m.  Graduation robes will be located in the ICRPS South Gym.  Weather permitting, parents and students are encouraged to have “photo ops” in their robes.  The front gardens make a great backdrop!

The South Gym doors will open for parents and guests with tickets beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Students will know which side of the gym they will enter during the ceremony, and should share this with parents in advance so that parents can have the best seats to capture those “special moments” on camera.

Graduates must be back in the North Gym by 6:50 p.m., in their robes and ready to line up in preparation for the beginning of the ceremony.

At 7:00 p.m. the ceremony begins.  This will include the processional, speeches, awards presentations, diploma presentations, and a slide show.  The ceremony concludes with a class photo op, with the entire graduating class grouped on the stage.  The graduation ceremony is usually finished by about 8:30 or 9:00 p.m.

After the ceremony, graduates are asked to hang their robes in the North Gym, then get their envelope from their homeroom teacher.  This envelope will contain the report card, diploma, and any other necessary papers.  Parents are encouraged to take these home so that students will not lose them.

Following the ceremony, students with signed permission forms will say goodbye to parents, and board the bus that will take them to the dance / after party located at Aristo’s (behind Smittys).  Permission notes will be sent home for signing prior to graduation.  ICRPS staff will be present to supervise throughout the evening.  This event will conclude at 11:00 p.m.  Parents are asked to pick up the students on time at the end of the evening.

Graduation Guests

To meet the Fire Marshall regulations for gym occupancy, we can accommodate the graduates, staff, and approximately 5 guests per student.  To keep an accurate count, even small children sitting on laps require a ticket.  With a larger graduating class this year, extra tickets will be limited.

Each grad will be given 5 tickets for their guests (graduates do not require a ticket).  Parents, if you require an additional ticket or two, please send a written request with your child, and we will make every effort to accommodate you.

If you do not require all five of your tickets, please do not give them to another student.  Return any extras to your homeroom teacher so that they can be distributed fairly among the grads.

If you have guests who require special seating (wheel chairs, walkers, service dog, etc.) please let us know in advance, so that we can plan reserved seating.

Graduation Attire

Many people have asked about graduation attire.  The graduates will each be provided with a rented gown to wear during the ceremony.  This creates unity within the graduating class.  Most students like to “dress up” for this special evening.  Their attire is the decision of their parents.  Most girls wear a dress or skirt and top, with shoes or sandals.  Most boys wear slacks, a button-up shirt, and sometimes a tie, vest, or jacket, as well as dress shoes or running shoes.  For both graduates and guests, keep in mind that, even with air-conditioning, a school gym in June filled with hundreds of bodies can be warm.  Dress with comfort in mind!

Attendance June 25-28

Students receive their diplomas and report cards on grad night.  Staff are on site and school activities continue for the four days following Friday’s graduation, but in the past, most grade 8 parents have chosen not to send their graduating students to school after graduation.  To help our office staff, we appreciate it when parents send in a signed note of absence in advance, or call the school if their son/daughter will be absent any or all of that week.  Once students arrive at school, they are expected to remain there until 3:15 p.m. dismissal time.

Composites and Yearbooks

Graduation Composite photos and yearbooks are usually delivered by the photographers and printers sometime during the week of grad.  They will be distributed as soon as they arrive.
